What happens in the chair

We recline you flat, wrap your face in a eucalyptus-steamed towel and let the beard soften while the razor gets its last strop.

    Steam

    Two hot towels open the pores and soften the stubble.

    Lather

    Pre-shave oil and a warm lather whipped by hand with a badger brush.

    Two passes

    With the grain, then across — never against unless you ask.

    Cold close

    A cold towel, alum block and a witch-hazel balm to calm the skin.
